The origin of a good presentation

T

wo months ago, I got carried away jogging. I found a trainer, and he built up my running technique and endurance day by day. Having a sacred knowledge of how to run safe and far, I regularly jogged along riverside together with tens of other runners. I looked at their athletic bodies, stylish sports form, and how they ran, and only one, or two of a dozen ran in the way my trainer taught me. The rest of them ran directly to sports injuries in a year or two. Why do all these people run wrong? – I asked my teacher, – they look like professional runners, but run like invalids. Guess the answer of my trainer?

I do not care about it.

When you are an expert in something, you get along with the knowledge that there is no right or wrong technique of doing something. There is only a Passion to explore the best way to achieve your Own Goal. So, if someone runs wrong, it is his or her own choice to achieve goal by spending money not for a good trainer, but for good sneakers and Garmin pulsometer. There is no reason to care about it, as far as goals differ.

There is the same train of thoughts about presentations. I have seen many lovely designed, but useless slides. They were real pieces of art but were also a complete business fail. I have also seen extremely ugly ones, but with core ideas, and the line of thought through all of them. Do I care about it? Not at all. I even have a universal answer for all these stories: “It is good enough, but it could be performed better”.

So then, when you are going to create your own slides story, put aside all your thinks about attributes: wow-design, and creativity. Instead, think of a core: your goal, your audience, and inspire yourself with an idea of your story. Having a goal and inspiration, you will clearly know how your way to people hearts should look alike, and who should be with you on this way.
